Something Else
Now is a free photocopied pamphlet containing 6 proposals for sabotaging
the gallery.
Each page identifies
a separate element of the gallery which is both physically and ideologically
pivotal to the experience of art as aesthetic. Practical proposals
that undermine these elements are then considered as possible strategies
for sabotaging the aesthetic insitutionalised by the gallery.
The elements
considered are:
1. Walls
2. Room
3. Objects
4. Artists
5. Visitors
6. Equipment

Some
sense of the content of the pamphlet can be suggested by looking at
the conclusions of each proposal.
The
conclusions given are:
1.
The walls of the gallery have to be taken down and returned to the
horizontal
2. The gallery-as-empty-room has to be re-programmed to do something
else.
3. Replace art objects with things, props, equipment, tools and so
on.
4. Artists must be artists no more in order to be and do something
else.
5. Visitors must be exiled from the gallery to make room for everyone
else.
6. Re-equip in order to do something else.
