Flags For Helen, part of a series of flags for people

These designs for flags commemorate private events rather than the official national occasions for which flags seem the natural expression of collective emotion.

I asked Helen, the first of a proposed series of people I want to contact for this project, to describe the personal events in her life for which she might wave a flag, including those events for which she would want to fly a flag at half-mast to signify her loss and pain.

The resulting flag designs do not codify Helen's loves and losses into heraldic forms but take their form directly from the words describing the events being commemorated.
